This series consists of ledgers that record operating expenses and income of the Hayward Indian School, listed according to major funding categories. Entries give monthly, year, and date totals under such categories as "Agency Expense" and "School Expense" under which figures were broken down further to indicate monies, repairs, and other expenses. Operating income was entered as coming from fees, rentals, or sales of products. The extent to which appropriations were subdivided into specific categories varied from year to year.

Hayward Boarding School

The Hayward Indian School in Hawyward, Wisconsin, was opened in 1901 as a boarding school for the Chippewa of the Lac Courte Oreille Reservation. It was subordinate to the La Pointe Agency until 1904. About 1911 it was given agency duties for the reservation.
